February is the month to celebrate love and connection within our community. Still, it’s also a reminder of how important it is to care for our hearts – both emotionally and physically. At Karingal Green, we’re dedicated to helping our residents feel their best, inside and out.
From nutritious meals and gentle exercise routines to engaging social activities, here are a few ways we incorporate heart-healthy habits into daily life for our residents:
Heart-healthy tips and activities
Stay Active
Keeping active is one of the many ways to support a healthy heart. We have a range of facilities dedicated to keeping residents fit and active. Our Wellness Centre is managed by allied health professionals who can develop customised health plans to meet the needs of each resident. The Wellness Centre enables residents to partake in activities such as exercise classes, pilates, hydrotherapy and more.
Daily Activities
Maintaining a regular routine has proven to benefit heart health and overall well-being. The staff at Karingal Green are committed to creating supportive environments for residents to thrive daily. Residents can partake in individual and group activities such as quizzes, gardening, daily walks, and weekly movies.
Managing Risks
As we get older it becomes increasingly important to be aware of risk factors for heart disease such as blood pressure and medical history. We prioritise our residents’ health and ensure they are provided with the right care to manage their risk factors. We provide home care services as well as transport to and from regular appointments.

Nutrition-focused meals
A healthy heart starts with what’s on our plate. By limiting unhealthy fats and enhancing flavours with herbs and spices, we can support heart health in a delicious way. At Karingal Green, our chefs craft balanced meals that not only nourish the body but also celebrate great taste – ensuring our residents can enjoy meals that benefit their overall well-being without compromising on flavour.
The importance of managing stress for cardiovascular health
It’s always important to recognise the significance of emotional well-being and how it plays a big role in heart health. Allowing our residents to unwind and focus on mindfulness helps to support and manage blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
To help manage stress and promote relaxation, we offer activities that our residents love to calm their minds:
● peaceful walks through our gardens
● creative outlets like arts and crafts
● beauty services like getting your nails or hair done
The benefits of connection
We never underestimate the power of connection with our residents. Loneliness and social isolation can often raise blood pressure and increase stress. Providing opportunities for residents to build relationships with one another is a core focus at Karingal Green. We believe it’s never too late to make new friendships or try a new hobby.
Our residents have daily activities planned out every month that allow them to bond and chat with other residents. Whether you feel like playing bingo, joining the men’s shed or watching live music, Karingal Green has something for everyone. Group activities and communal areas ensure every resident has the opportunity to be social and form new connections with residents and staff alike.
