At Karingal Green, our mission is to deliver truly holistic care to our residents, in an environment where every person’s physical, emotional, financial, social and spiritual wellbeing has been considered and attended to.
With a team of passionate and caring professionals, it’s our staff who make the difference when it comes to your loved one being in safe hands. To help you get to know the stories behind the faces our residents see every day, we’re highlighting our care team in a series of blogs. It’s a way for us to emphasise their compassion and dedication, and most importantly share a little more about the people our residents have come to know and love. Roisin will be a familiar face to many as she has worked across numerous Hall & Prior homes over the years. Seeing her bright smile and bubbly attitude shine is something many families experience when they come to visit their loved ones or attend one of our events. Her attention to detail and efforts in caring for our residents’ don’t go unnoticed, so we sat down to chat about what fuels Roisin’s drive and passion when she comes to work every day and why she loves being part of the Karingal Green community.
Roisin’s journey to Karingal Green
A qualified occupational therapist (OT), Roisin spent many years working across several other Hall & Prior homes; Hamersley, St Luke’s, Belmont, Kensington Park, McDougall Park and Tuohy Aged Care Home. When Karingal Green was opening, she was invited to come and have a look at the brand-new home and was instantly drawn to the magnificent building and facilities. Roisin was ready for a change after three years in her last posting, and Karingal Green proved to be the perfect opportunity at the right time.
A typical day for Roisin
It’s the residents who motivats Roisin to go to work every day, with the chance to build rapport with them and getting to know them on a personal level proves to be a particular highlight. Having the chance to sit down and listen to their life stories, Roisin is happy to help and make sure they enjoy their time at Karingal Green. Working alongside a team of therapy assistants and companions at Karingal Green makes her daily routine more rewarding, especially when there’s a team who are as committed as Roisin is to achieving the same outcomes.
For Roisin, there’s no such thing as a typical day and it’s certainly never dull for the talented OT. From event manger to OT expert, her tasks include;
- Cognitive and seating assessments
- Equipment provision
- Organising activities
- Organising entertainers
- Arranging volunteers to visit
- Creating the monthly lifestyle & activity calendars
We asked what she would do if she could switch your job with anyone else and her reply was to work as a companion. Having the opportunity to focus on one individual for a full hour and being able to do whatever they wanted during this time was particularly appealing to Roisin. Whether it was going for a long walk, playing a board game, helping them write a letter to a loved one or reminiscing and having a meaningful conversation, it’s special connections like these which make her job all the more rewarding and fulfilling.
Fun facts about Roisin
