Ageing can be scary and confrontational, despite the fact it’s simply part of everybody’s life story. While we may see our loved ones’ mental and physical health decline, the one thing we can do is be prepared and educated about what is to come in terms of the ageing journey, and how you and your family can best handle this change in life.
From understanding aged care costs to researching the type of home that will suit a member’s lifestyle, we have some helpful tips you can make a note of for later or send on to your friends and family.
How much will it cost?
One of the most frequently asked questions we receive or are asked about on our social media are the costs associated with aged care. This is completely understandable as it’s a huge financial investment and there’s also some uncertainty too with the various rules that apply, while also juggling family commitments too.
Accommodation costs at Karingal Green are determined on eligibility, and the government will pay an accommodation supplement for residents who are assessed as eligible. This is determined through a combined assets and income assessment. Depending on your financial circumstances, the Government may pay either all, part or none of your accommodation cost. If you are assessed as eligible for the maximum accommodation supplement, you will not be charged any additional amount for your accommodation. If you are eligible for a partial accommodation supplement, you will only be charged the difference between the supplement amount and the maximum supplement for Karingal Green. If you are assessed as not eligible, the Government will not contribute to the cost of your accommodation. Our Relationship Manager, Tess Woodford would be more than happy to run you through a presentation if you’d like more information.

What type of care is required?
While moving into aged care can be a sensitive and challenging moment in life, this makes it even more important to consider a home based on your loved one’s needs. The individual may have different care needs; for example dementia, Parkinson’s, high and low care needs, as well as access to lifestyle and wellness programs. Researching the aged care home you’re considering about the care offered and how the home implements certain procedures and actions to make someone feel looked after and cared for will give you a better understanding of the home as a whole.
What amenities are on offer?
Looking at the home as a whole and considering the different accommodation options offered, as well as living rooms, dining spaces, common spaces and any other amenities which have been designed to feel at home, contribute to the overall feel of the home. At Karingal Green, we have designed different spaces to be used by all, from a swim in the hydrotherapy pool, to enjoying our lush outdoor space or a coffee in our cafe. We’ve created a luxurious home-from-home environment where everyone can find somewhere they love to spend time together or in their own company. You or your family members may value big open spaces and gardens, or an activity schedule may be a priority. We know that what’s important will change from family to family, and this is why it’s important to do your research and see the difference. It’s also worth asking staff for more information about the home and any questions you may have.
Ready to book a tour?
One of the most important things when seeking an aged care option is to go and see the home in person. This way, you can get an understanding of the home layout, dynamics and overall feel, while meeting the staff and chatting with them and about any specific requirements. During this visit, you’ll get an overall feel of the home, and it’s also the perfect opportunity to ask any questions you may have and feel comfortable and reassured. Given the current circumstances, both online and in tour options are possible and are an essential part of the forward planning process.
Karingal Green has been built as a new and modern approach to aged care, and our 160-bed residence caters for all walks of life.
